We could always use items for art center,

such as stencils, stickers, sequins buttons

etc. Your children and I really appreciate it.

Please send in more water colors with your children. ( thank you to those who did)

Parents, please look over your child's homework every night before they hand it in the next day.

Some days your child will be bringing home a "little book" from reading group to

read at home.  This will be a familiar book, so please listen for fluency and expression

as well as accuracy.  Your student should be reading at home for pleasure at least 20

 minutes a day.

Dear Second Grade Parents,

Welcome to a new year at Blessed Sacrament.   I have high expectations not only for your children but for myself. We are going to start out the year by writing a mission statement which will be our guide throughout the year as to what we are going to accomplish and how we are going to do it. Please talk to your children about your expectations of them and discuss why you are sending them to Blessed Sacrament Catholic School rather than another school. Once we have completed our Mission Statement, we will get on a routine and try as hard as possible to adhere to our schedule.  I have given you a schedule to keep as a reference, but remember most of us are seven, and teachable moments do occur. (Rather than printing out 20 new schedules, please note that Science and Social Studies have switched places)

Each day your student will bring home a Blessed Sacrament Planner. Please check your child’s planner everyday and sign it on the corresponding day.  In it will be homework assignments, any parent/teacher communication, or information about upcoming school and classroom events.  If you need to send me a message, write it in the planner, as I will be checking them each morning for parent signatures. I may also write you a message if a situation arises, it will be my first line of communication. There will be a Responsibility Award given to the student at the end of the year that has shown the most responsibility with his/her planner.

As for my discipline plan for second grade, I’m going to remain positive that we are not going to have any discipline issues.  However, if they do arise, the consequences will be:

1. verbal warning

2. time away from centers or recess and note in planner from me

3. “thinking sheet” – student will write about what they did and what they should have done, this will go home to be signed by parent and then returned to me

4.  phone call or e-mail to parent

5.  parent/teacher conference

The “Rules” posted in my classroom are:

Respect Yourself

Respect Others

Respect Property

Take Responsibility for you actions

Grades will be given for Classwork, Homework and Tests. They will be equally weighted at 33% for each Trimester.  ( See Handbook  p.15,16)

Please, please, please remember to send a snack with your child everyday.  We have a very late lunch, (12:10) and our tummies will be rumbling without a snack.  We will have snack recess everyday at 9:30.

There will be times during the week when I could use a parent volunteer or two, so please make sure to get your background checks and Safe Environment Training.  The times I would need are as follows:

Mondays at 2:15 for Writers Workshop

Tuesdays at 2:15 for Computers

Wednesdays at 8:30 for Mass

Wednesdays at 2:15 for Writers Workshop

Thursdays at 1:30 for Writers Workshop

Fridays at 9:00 for Library

I have also already booked five fieldtrips to the Mahaffey Theater to see a variety of shows put on by ClassActs.  I will need drivers, and all Chaperones will have to pay the $5.00 ticket price as well.

The dates for these fieldtrips are: October 13, November 5, December 8, February 23, and May 18.

Again, all Classroom volunteers and drivers must have background check and have completed the Safe Environment Training.  Thank you in advance for the time you will be spending with our class.

Our P.E. days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  On Tuesday and Thursday your student may come to school already dressed in his/her P.E. uniform.  On Wednesday they must be in Mass attire.  We will change for P.E. after lunch.

Take a look at our classroom wish list, if your means allow please consider donating to our class these items.

Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns you may have about you child, a certain subject, assignment or homework.  We may be able to solve the issue via e-mail, or you can schedule a conference.  I’d like to meet with each of you so I can get to know you and your children well.
