Mrs. K's Kindergarten Korner
March 9, 2010
The class continued to work with the short "O"
sound this past week. We read the Starfall
decodable book Pop, Pop, Pop. We continued with
our celebration of Dr. Seuss literature. The
children enjoyed reading Green Eggs and Ham. For
snack we had green eggs made from whipped
cream and green sherbet. The class became familiar with a not
so well known Dr. Seuss story The 500 Hats of Bartholemew
Cobins. The story really kept the children's interest during our
read aloud time.
The Kindergarten made hats of their own. Each child made a red
and white hat, added a red ribbon and whiskers to look like the Cat
in the Hat. The class wore their hats to wish Dr. Seuss a happy
birthday on our KNN News.
Our 7th Grade Buddies joined in the Dr. Seuss celebration and read
stories by Dr. Seuss to the Kindergarten. Each child got to hear a
favorite story and do a book report.
Mrs. Yevich also joined in our celebration and read The Cat in the
Hat Comes Back. Afterwards the class did some journal writing
about a visit from the Cat in the Hat.
Our assemblies on Thursday and Friday were
wonderful! The children learned about recycling
and dinosaurs. We got to make a fossil print and
dig for a sharks tooth during the Jurassic Jr.
presentation.
This past week we began chapter 9 "Readiness
for Addition and Subtraction" and chapter 10 "
Geometry and Fractions". We enjoyed using goldfish and mini
marshmallows to show addition sentences for the numbers 8-10.
The best part was eating the snacks at the end of the lesson.
Our Religion lessons for the next few weeks
will focus on the miracles and parables of
Jesus. This past week we read and discussed Jesus
feeding the 5000 and Jesus healing the Centurion's
servant. The class chooses a Lenten practice for the day each
morning. We are working onbecoming closer to Jesus by learning
more about Him and actingmore like Him.
