Keep sending in the Box Tops for Education. It is one of the easiest ways to make money for our school. I cut them off as soon as I get home from my shopping trips. This way my family does not accidentally throw them away.My Kindergarteners can earn a "Good For You" ticket for every 5 Box Tops or Campbell soup labels that he/she turns in. Remember to send in those recyclable cartridges and cell phones too.
Please remember to put any money sent to school in an envelope or zip-lock bag and mark it with the child's name and what it is for. The children do not always know. It may take a little more time but it really makes a difference at our end. Thank you so much!
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK
We worked on the letters /k/,/qu/ and /y/ this past week. We learned the sounds of the letters and how to print them correctly. The class read the Starfall decodable book We Can See on the Smartboard and during center time. We also reread other decodable books on moreStarfall. As usual the children will be bringing the new book home to read to you this week. Look for it in the binder.
The children have been doing a great job of reading their books aloud to us. Thank you for your support at home with this. They are becoming excellent readers.
The class enjoyed learning about Native Americans this past week. We read many read aloud books and compared and contrasted the life styles of Native Americans from the plains, woodlands, northwest coast and southwest. The children had fun making tepees, canoes, and totem poles. We learned several songs and even put up a tepee in the classroom.
The children have been adding feathers to their Indian headbands each time they are caught being good!!!!!!
We learned about Native American symbols and used them to write stories on buffalo hide.
The class is looking forward to our Pow-Wow on Monday. They are also excited about bringing home their projects to share with you.
Handwriting Reinforcement
Please refer to the letter printing sheet in the binder when doing homework. It shows how to make each letter of the alphabet like we do in class. This will help your student to form letters correctly. It can make a big difference in how quickly children learn proper formation of letters. It takes much more time for children to learn this when the only time they are asked to do it is in school. Thanks so much for your support.
We have completed chapter 4. I did individual assessments in math this week. The children did a great job. Chapter 4 assessments will come home in the binder this week.
We learned about the Holy Family this past week and the family of God,the church, which we joined when we were Baptized. We learned to sing and sign a new song "One Big Happy Family". Ask your child to perform it for you.
May God continue to bless our work,
Mrs. Klosterman
