What's Happening in Second Grade

The Great American Teach-In, November 19, was a memorable day for the children.  The day began with Mr. Steele's hand-on lesson on building a bird house.  Assisting him was Mr. Gregory (Max's grandfather,) Mr. Nelson, and Mr. Jerry (our custodians) and Mrs. Janczak.   Next, our class met Corporal Gaul (Ms. Gaul's father) who showed us The Peace Keeper, the Sheriff's Departments bullet-proof tank.  The children were allowed to go through it and see its special features.  Then, Mrs. Kyle came into class and gave a lesson on the importance of having home owner's insurance.  The children completed some "I-Spy" photographs finding hazardous items on homes.  Finally, Mrs. Phyllis Gregory (Max's grandmother) gave a slide show of her recent trip to the North Africa region as she passed around many interesting items from her travels.  The class enjoyed this special day.  A big thank you to all who volunteered their time and talent.I hope everyone enjoyed the long Thanksgiving break.  Our Thanksgiving feast with the third graders on November 20 was a huge success.  Thank you to all the families for sending the bountiful feast.  I am very thankful for our room mothers, Kate Malcolm and Mandy Rose, who set up and served the delicious meal.  An article and picture of some of the little Pilgrims and Native Americans appeared in the Seminole Beacon last week.
